Brief info
Andre Jenkins is a founding member of Voices From Within and a directly impacted leader whose work focuses on steering young people away from gun violence and helping communities heal. During 15 years in New York State prison on a 22-to-life sentence, much of it at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, he completed substance use treatment, earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, co-founded Voices From Within, led a gun buy-back campaign, served as president of the Sing Sing NAACP chapter, and raised funds for Hurricane Sandy relief.
Since coming home with a commutation of his sentence, Andre has continued that mission as Chief Executive Officer and partner at Fresh Start Family in New York City, where he draws on his degrees in Behavioral Science, Professional Studies, and Religious Leadership and Administration to help people impacted by crime and poverty set and reach concrete goals. Through Voices From Within, he brings the same commitment to using his lived experience, education, and faith to deter violence, open up second chances, and show what genuine transformation can look like.
